The contracting company, Aurecon began working on the circle again on 11 January. As a result motorists, whether they are on their way to the golf course or going into town along Cradock Road and Somerset Streeton, will have to share lanes.
Oldo Rudolecky of Aurecon urged drivers to take care and be patient while using that section of the road.
Rudolecky hopes that the circle will be totally complete within two to two-and-a-half months, “weather permitting”.
The speed limit inside the circle area is 20km/h and Rudolecky urged motorists to obey this speed limit.
There are currently 18 workers, including local labour and operators from K4 construction company, on the site.
Construction of the R3.5-million traffic circle is funded by the provincial Department of Roads and Transport as the road is part of a provincial road through Grahamstown that leads to other towns.
The project arose out of an initiative from St Andrew’s College two years ago to look at how the safety of pedestrians could be improved.
Once completed, the circle with have two vehicle lanes and pavements for pedestrians.
