About the author

My name is Kelia Losa Reinoso. I am an international student from Cuba. I’ve been studying at Rhodes University since 2015. My family and I moved to South Africa in 1999 and have been living here on temporary residence visas ever since.  I am currently doing my Masters in Journalism and Media Studies.  During my studies I’ve interned at several publications, including People Magazine SA. I have specialized in writing & editing and my interest lies in lifestyle journalism.

About the project

This website is a practical project in partial fulfillment of my Master of Arts degree. I created this site with the help of many international students, lecturers, friends, family and IT guys to help other international students be informed of the things they might need coming to Rhodes University, and what they can expect to find when they are here. I have produced all the written and video content myself, and have sourced photography & visuals from friends, colleagues and creative commons platforms.

About the contributors

The stories, videos, and themes of this website are all inspired by international students at Rhodes University, some who have been here many years, and others who had just arrived. Without them, this site would not have been possible. Special thanks must be given to Dudu Ebineng, Leslie Chingono, Rowena Smith, Audrey Kagwere, Chishimba Kasanga, Topo Leinaeng, Bame Lekoma, & Morgan Catto for illustrations.

What we do

We offer information to international students at Rhodes University, both current and prospective. The stories and testimonies on this platform were created to provide information on visas, medical aid, social and entertainment, finance, and integration into Rhodes culture.

From what societal clubs to join, to what bursaries you can apply for, to visa tips, RU International is the international students’ one-stop shop to answer as many questions as possible and give out as much advice as possible.  This site gathers together experiences of international students in one place so that those with similar problems can use these to find their own solutions.
